salvation
"I will take the chalice of salvation; and I will call upon the name of the Lord." Psalm 116
This design started out using Gothic Architecture design language, particularly the pointed arch. It would be these shapes that would appear to be delicately holding up the cup and sub-cup. Originally, the the point of the windows would meet at the node, stretching up to the cup and down to the base. However, the design as imagined this way did not work out in 3D. So, we simply flipped the pointed arches to be up around the cup and down at the perimeter of the base, both flowing into each other through the node. This brought the design to life and was quickly completed. It has 4 distinct pieces: the Gothic lace, gold cup, base and sub-cup. It is designed in such a way that the base and sub-cup can be changed out for different finishes. The different finishes include silver and various colors based on Liturgical seasons, Holy Days of Obligation, Feast Days, Sacramental Masses and priestly orders. The Gothic lace is cast metal from a 3D printed piece and can be finished in either gold or silver. The base and sub-cup are spun metal. The cup will always be finished in gold.
